A love story between the ostracized son of a wealthy family and the daughter of the owner of a vast sugar‑producing plantation is one of director Humberto Mauro’s major films. He makes excellent use of both the natural surroundings and the industrial setting of the sugarcane plantation. There is just the right kind of chemistry between the actors, and the main villain has enough edge. The final climax leaves room for the viewer’s imagination.
